Red Flags Training

Red Flags – Identity Theft Rules are new regulations recently released by the Federal Trade Commission. What you need to know is:

• - that the government mandates initial and annual training and a written policy on the rules;
• - that the government has set penalties for failure to comply and
• - what the rules require of your practice.

When scheduling/confirming appointments, ask patient to bring driver’s license (or other non-expired government photo ID) and current insurance card

Tell the patient if photo ID does not have current residential address to bring other recent correspondence showing address, such as a utility bill

Counsel for the Federal Trade Commission, who created and enforces the Red Flags – Identity Theft Rules, has issued a written opinion stating that all staff members in all providers offices participate in Red Flags training.
